Octopus and avocado salad

Octopus and avocado salad

There are hundreds of ways to prepare a salad, especially if it has avocado in it. But how about an octopus and avocado salad?

Besides having a maritime touch, octopus salad is healthy and nutritious. It contains the protein from the octopus, but also the healthy fats from the avocado. Not to say that it tastes exquisite and is a good side dish, but complete enough to be a main course.

See how to prepare this delicacy.

Ingredients

  • Cooked octopus (preferably the tentacles).
  • 1 avocado.
  • 1 onion.
  • Cherry tomatoes to taste.
  • Lemon.
  • Parsley or fresh cilantro.
  • Extra virgin olive oil.
  • Salt.
  • Ground black pepper.

Preparation

Cooking the Octopus

Take the octopus you bought (preferably fresh) and cook it in boiling water. If you want its meat to be soft, you can freeze it in advance so that its fibers soften and thaw it when you are going to cook it.

Before adding the octopus, make sure the water is boiling. Don’t just throw it in or drop it in all at once. You should put the octopus in and take it out 3 or 4 times, submerging it for 5 to 10 seconds each time you put it in. This is done to prevent cracks in the skin and thus give a better presentation.

1 dip the octopus

Once this is done, you can let it cook for 40 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the octopus. Lower the heat a little so that the water boils moderately. Adding salt to the water as well as garlic, bay leaf or onion makes the octopus take on all these flavors.

2 cook the octopus

Cut the avocado and the rest of the ingredients.

At this point, it is time to chop all the other salad ingredients. Peel and cut the avocado into small squares (or strips according to taste).

3 cut the avocado

Cut the tomato into small squares. In case they are cherry tomatoes, you can cut them in half or in four parts.

4 cut tomato and other ingredients

Do exactly the same with the onion and cilantro:

5 cut onion

Cutting the octopus

Once the octopus is ready, cut it into small slices and add it to the rest of the ingredients.

6 cut octopus

One recommendation is to cut the suckers too large, as certain diners find it unpalatable.

Putting the finishing touches to our salad

Once all the above is done, now you only have to mix all the ingredients in a bowl.

7 mix ingredients in a bowl
