Line of Events
A gift to a girl transforms her family’s fortunes in rural Chile in the 1960s to describe events in Hollywood films.. Features Odavde do věčnosti (1953). Screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, the film is a tribute to the American West as well as an exploration of the power of cinema/storytelling to transform a life. In Spanish with subtitles, the characters are drawn from life, which is a rather difficult life. "In the driest place on earth" The established community is not unhappy. There is plenty of room for gentle humor and young love. The camera turns away from the actual violence, but not the story, which honestly addresses what’s going on behind the scenes in a salt petre desert city for the young woman at the center of the story. The film is shot on location in an abandoned mining town, which adds to the versatility.
