Steps to peel an avocado
All the tricks we are going to mention below share this main step.
With your knife cut the avocado in half along the longest part, that is, from where it hangs from the tree to the bottom. Be sure to insert the knife until it touches the seed and cut around the entire avocado.
Then, you only need to open the avocado by turning each part in the opposite direction with your hands to separate them.
To remove the seed without getting your hands dirty or touching the avocado, simply stick the knife into the pit, twist it a little and remove it.
Tips for peeling an avocado
Trick 1: Peel with a spoon
This is one of the most classic ways to peel an avocado. Simply take a spoon (preferably a soup spoon) and insert it between the skin and the flesh of the avocado. Then, turn the avocado by pressing the spoon a little bit towards the opposite side.
Important: make sure that the spoon is always stuck to the avocado skin so that no flesh remains.
Trick 2: Peel with a glass
For this trick we will use a glass. It is important that the size of the glass is according to the size of the avocado, preferably a little larger.
Insert the edge of the glass between the rind and the flesh of the avocado. Put a little pressure trying to insert the avocado inside the glass so that the edge of the glass always has contact with the skin.
It is advisable to insert the glass through the widest part of the avocado, especially if it is very ripe.
Trick 3: Peel in strips with the help of the peel
You can also peel the avocado by cutting the flesh into strips to divide them into portions or for certain dishes.
In this case, we will use the rind as a base. Cut the flesh into strips reaching the rind, but not with too much force so as not to break it, a little pressure will be enough.
Then, we do exactly the same as with the spoon trick. We introduce it through one of the edges and turn until peeling each piece.
Trick 4: Cut into strips and peel with spoon
There is a variation to the previous trick. This time we will cut the strips of meat together with the rind.
After we have the pieces we want, we can separate them individually with a spoon. In this case, separate the skin from the meat by introducing the spoon from top to bottom.
Trick 5: Peel avocado in cubes
This trick is similar to the third one. Only this time, instead of cutting the avocado into strips, we will cut it into squares for a salad.
Remember to make the cuts smoothly so as not to pierce the rind. And again, use a spoon to remove the avocado.
You could also use a glass to remove the flesh in strips or squares.
As a last tip, you don’t need to follow the main step to cut the avocado into strips. You could also cut directly the strips you are going to consume and then peel them with a spoon.
